W: The Legacy

On this last evening under the leadership of George W. Bush I would like to pay tribute to the man who kept the promises he made and steered the ship of state through storms unimaginable.

Eight years ago, when he came into office after a bitter election, President Bush promised to build bipartisanship. He immediately asked Senator Ted Kennedy to help him draft the "No Child Left Behind" program. When they finished, Uncle Teddy smiled for the cameras and shook the President's hand. No sooner had the ink dried than Uncle Teddy whined that he didn't agree with everything in the program. President Bush should have taken this as a clear definition of how the opposition works. It's only bipartisan if they get everything they want and you agree with them.
The President campaigned as a 'compassionate conservative' and thus introduced his faith based initiatives. Improving and helping where we are known to have results. He stood for the defense of life and the preservation of it. Under his direction the United States has led the world in saving lives in Africa in combating AIDS and famine. But you don't read about this in the mainstream press. He even stood for the rights of illegal aliens to obtain the American dream. Much to the chagrin of some in his own party.
Since 9/11 President Bush has committed our defense to keeping us safe from terror and to spread democracy where tyranny breeds hatred and extremism. Mission accomplished!
George W. Bush is not a man who seeks to have his words engraved on granite edifices. He has never even tried to compare himself to Teddy Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan, or even his father. He has never tried to put himself on a pedestal as someone of higher quality than the people he governed. Nor would he let anyone else to do so. His legacy will be the tough choices he made and doing what was right over what was popular. When todays leftwing media pundits are dead and gone and we are free to judge President Bush by his actions without the blurring of their hatred spewing editorializing, we will confirm that we were privileged to have him as our Commander-in-Chief.
God bless you Mr. President. Get some rest. And may you live long enough to see the appreciation of the ENTIRE nation.
