As the Governor of the state of Michigan plays political games with education in an attempt to strong-arm the Republican led state senate into a tax increase, I am amazed that the way our local media is portraying the Michigan taxpayer. When Governess Granholm vetoed funding for education, they found a couple of die hard Democrats who said "I wouldn't mind a tax increase to pay for education". This reminded me of how so many wealthy Democrats will tell you that we don't pay enough in taxes. These are the same people who pay accountants and tax lawyers big bucks to find ways of not paying their taxes. Just ask Charlie Rangle. When they say "we" don't pay enough in taxes, they mean you.
Joe Biden likes to play the 'working class average joe', yet he owns a multi-million dollar estate in Delaware which was bought and paid for entirely by his salary as a U.S. Senator. He may have ridden Amtrack to D.C. but when he got there he rode around in limousines. His tax returns showed he itemized everything down to the Amtrack travel costs. Too bad he was so tight fisted when it came to charitable donations. Perhaps the money he saved by commuting to work could have gone to paying for a health care plan equal to his for his estate staff.
The members of the "Party of the People" live like Czars. Many now even have the title to go with the power and wealth. But since they like to say "We don't pay enough in taxes", then perhaps we should let them rectify the financial situation.
I propose an addition to our state and federal tax forms. One last section at the very end. First, a simple question that can only be answered with a 'Yes' or 'No'. "Do you feel that you are paying your fair share of taxes?" That question would be followed by a last adjustment to the return: If 'No', please add the amount you feel you still owe to the amount owed or deduct that amount from your refund." Any return with a small, symbolic amount filled in would be a flag for an audit. This would be a very revealing way to make the libs put their money where there mouth is. And who knows? It might bring in a few extra bucks toward paying off their multi-trillion dollar spending spree.

Absurdly Ridiculous Obama Worship
Breaking News: President Obama has been awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
I am waiting for the work 'hoax' to appear in a follow up story but I am afraid it hasn't materialized. My first thought when seeing this was "Are you kidding me?!!". The man has only been in office for nine months and has yet to sign a peace treaty, broker successful peace talks or even bring waring enemies to the table, yet the Nobel prize committee has awarded him it's top prize for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen diplomacy and cooperation between peoples". In other words, his trips to Europe to make speeches.
I guess since this same committee gave a prize to Al Gore, we know that it has now become the world's prize for the encouragement of socialism. Jimmy Carter should be furious and questioning the value of his prize. Bill Clinton should be livid as he was never awarded the prize after the Dayton accords. And Both George Bush's can sleep nights knowing that their "extraordinary efforts" will have the real long lasting results of peace.
Having just reread 'Theodore Rex' by Edmund Morris, I was fascinated by the "extraordinary" RESULTS achieved by President Roosevelt. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for ending the Russo-Japanese war. He actually did it. Himself! Hell, even Jimmy Carter got Anwar Sadat and Menachem Begin to sign a treaty. Richard Nixon thawed the cold war, Ronald Reagan started the toppling of the tyrannical Soviet empire and George H.W. Bush finished it. But it is now that the Nobel prize committee is handing out it's peace prize to Barack Obama -for his effort.
It is a sad day for Alfred Nobel's legacy when his award is given for intentions and not accomplishments. I for one will now look at the Nobel prize with as much respect as an honorary degree from an online university. The shock over this morning's announcement tells me that I am not alone. I can't help to wonder if they will hand out the prize for literature to someone with a couple of rejected manuscripts, for his effort. Or the prize in science to someone who burned up a couple of labs but never found any results, for his effort.
The Nobel Prize committee is clearly off it's rocker. Perhaps it's something in the Swedish water. Too much Absolute would be my guess. It's enough to make you want to boycott IKEA.

The Tax Dollar Food Chain
City governments are desperately trying to find funds to balance their budges. As usual they are looking to their state houses. States are trying to do the same and hoping for more Federal stimulus funding to do it. Meanwhile in Washington, President Obama has increased the federal deficit by trillions. People have lost their homes due to not being able to pay the money they borrowed from the bank. Health care is being overhauled because people can't afford the money they have to pay back their insurance companies. All of this borrowing and owing and nobody is talking about the real issue, living within our means.
Everyone owes money these days. As usual, our government will be seeking ways to increase taxes to balance budgets. God forbid they should take pay cuts, staff cuts, benefit cuts, to adjust to their current financial income. My city has NINE city council members. All full time. All receive a city owned car and driver. We are only one of a small handful of major cities to have a nine person, full time governing body. Detroit has been shrinking in population and economic base for years, but you wouldn't know it by the way our city government has grown. Ten percent of the city population is on the city of Detroit payroll. The state of Michigan has also taken a big hit in the population and economy in the last seven years. Again, no cuts to our full time legislature. Washington needs to stop this food chain of funding bailouts and let the cities chips fall where they may. Cost control needs to be their main priority. Perhaps if our elected officials learned some on-the-job-training of how to work within their own budget without having to borrow from big brother, they might build confidence in their constituents and create a sound investment for possible new businesses. Confidence in the economy means people spend money. When people spend money they increase funding into the treasuries. We need elected officials who know how to make money. And to get rid of those who only know how to spend it.
